Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary Jones has issued some important advice to parents who are worried about sending their children back to school.
Schools are set to reopen across the UK at the beginning of September, with measures in place to help prevent a coronavirus outbreak.
The UK's chief medical officers have warned that children are more at risk of long-term harm if they do not attend school than if they return to the classroom despite coronavirus.
In a joint statement issued ahead of the reopening of schools next month, advisers said children have an 'exceptionally low risk of dying' from Covid-19.
And Dr Hilary has agreed with the experts, advising that the risk of Covid-19 to children is low.
He said: "Parents want to protect their children above all.
"That's their main issue, isn't it?
"While the government are saying one thing, there is a huge consensus among the medical officers of each of the four nations - all of the medical advisers are in agreement."
He continued: "The risk of Covid-19 in children is really, very small."
The chief and deputy chief medical officers said schools were not a 'common route of transmission', and that teachers were not at any increased risk of dying compared to the general working-age population.
Dr Hilary added: "If we look at the worst case scenario when thinking about Covid-19 and fatality rates and the fatality rates in children aged five to 14 is actually lower from Covid-19 than it is with seasonal flu.
"I think that is a very telling statistic as we don't worry about our children going to school when there is flu around but we have got this overriding fear about Covid-19.
"It's good to have some apprehension about Covid-19 for precautions but I think that statistic is really important."
