Dr Hilary Jones clashed with Johnny Ball as they both appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.
The pair were discussing the fact that motorists over the age of 70 could be banned from driving at night or more than 30 miles from their home if they are in poor health.
The proposal is being considered by the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency and Driving Mobility, and is looking into whether elderly drivers should have trackers installed in their cars.
However, Dr Hilary and 82-year-old Johnny had rather different views when it came to the subject matter.
Sitting alongside Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid on the ITV breakfast show, Dr Hilary said he believes that drivers over the age of 70 should have to resit their test.

"There might be other issues. People should certainly inform the DVLA if they've become diabetic, on medication of any kind, have seizures," he explained.
"I think in terms of age alone that's not the factor. It's your ability to drive safely. Look at deaths on the road, most occur with drivers under the age of 20.
"I do believe people should be tested on a regular basis."

However, Johnny disagreed and said: "I think it's terrible to use these restrictions. Of course some people can't drive when they're older but if you can, you can't restrict people.
"If there's one thing I dread when getting older is losing the ability to drive," the elderly TV star added.
