Dr. Fauci, Oprah and The Rock among winners at 25th Webby Awards

America’s top infectious disease expert can add a new title to his resume: 2021 Webby Person of the Year.

Dr. Anthony Fauci took home top prize at the 25th Webby Awards on Tuesday for his work spreading clear and updated COVID-19 information across the internet.

Ava DuVernay was named Film & Video Person of the Year, while Pharrell Williams won the Webby Anthem Award for his “groundbreaking endeavors working towards racial equity in education and entrepreneurship.”

Pharrell was not the only activist honored, as actress Yara Shahidi won Advocate of the Year, and Stop AAPI Hate was crowned Social Movement of the Year.

Actress Jameela Jamil hosted the show, which celebrated the best in a wide array of internet categories, from Best Influencer (Dave Jorgenson of The Washington Post) to Best Kids App (Duolingo ABC) to Best Tourism and Leisure Advertising (Singapore’s Virtual Sentosa on “Animal Crossing.”)

Jemele Hill won Best Podcast Host for her work on “Jemele Hill is Unbothered,” while “Oprah’s Book Club” was named Best Arts & Culture Podcast.

Riz Ahmed won Best Actor for “Sound of Metal,” and Andra Day won Best Actress for “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was one of four people celebrated with a general Special Achievement award for his “phenomenal use of social media to connect with people, to provide inspiration and motivation to millions of followers globally, and to serve fans with new and exclusive content from his wide range of ongoing film-and-TV projects.”

Dua Lipa claimed Best Shortform Comedy Video for “Dua Lipa Has New Rules for COVID Dating.”
