Dr Emer Holohan, wife of Dr Tony Holohan, has sadly died after long illness

Dr Emer Holohan has sadly died after a long battle with cancer, it was announced today.

Dr Holohan, a well-known medic and the wife of CMO Dr Tony Holohan, was receiving palliative care at Our Lady's Hospice in Harold's Cross in Dublin.

Funeral details have been announced as she will be laid to rest on Monday.

The Irish Cancer Society has paid tribute to the Holohan family after the news broke on social media.

They said on Twitter: "The Irish Cancer Society wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the family of Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan on the sad passing of his wife Emer. The Holohan family are in our thoughts at this sad time."

She is survived by her husband and their two children Clodagh and Ronan.

A notice on RIP.ie reads: "HOLOHAN (née Feely), Dr. Emer, 19th February, 2021, Terenure, Dublin. Peacefully at Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross following a long illness, in the company of her husband and children.

"Deeply regretted by her husband Tony, children Clodagh and Ronan, father Frank and mother Ita, brother Ronan, sisters Orla and Niamh. Emer will be forever remembered by the Holohan and Feely families and her wide circle of dear friends.

"May she Rest in Peace."

Dr Holohan's funeral mass will be streamed live from St. Pius X Church here on Monday at 12.30 pm.
