Dr. Dillamond's Role In Wicked Movie Musical Still Uncertain

Dr. Dillamond's absence from the cast photo fuels fan theories.

Dr. Dillamond, a pivotal character in the journeys of Elphaba and Glinda in the musical Wicked, may or may not appear in the upcoming movie adaptation. The cast of the Wicked movie, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the lead roles, recently posed for a group portrait published by Vanity Fair on March 21. The photo included other cast members such as Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James.

Notably absent from the cast photo was Dr. Dillamond, leading to speculation among fans about the character's potential appearance in the movie. Some fans theorized that the absence of Dr. Dillamond could set up a dramatic reveal later in the production. Others suggested the possibility of a gender-bent version of the character played by Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba on Broadway.

The movie adaptation of Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu, has not confirmed whether Dr. Dillamond will be included in the film or who will portray the character. IMDb credits Alfredo Tavares as an unknown teacher and Keala Settle as a new character named Miss Coddle, but it remains uncertain if either will replace Dr. Dillamond.

Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire's novel and the stage show of the same name, serving as a prequel to the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz. The two witches become roommates during their time at Shiz University, where Dr. Dillamond, a talking goat professor, plays a significant role in their lives.

The movie adaptation of Wicked, set to be released in two parts, is scheduled to premiere on November 27. Director Jon M. Chu expressed his vision for the film, aiming to bring the magical world of Shiz University to life without relying on CGI effects, drawing inspiration from his childhood dreams of fantastical storytelling.
