DR Congo elections: A look at the Catholic Church's impact on the vote

Screengrab, France 24

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the two years since President Joseph Kabila’s refusal to step aside, the Catholic Church has remained an institution that can speak without fear.

DR Congo will hold a presidential election on Sunday that could mark the end of an era, with the country’s first democratic transfer of power. Today, in a country where faith is strong and bishops are widely respected, the same Catholic groups that months ago organised peaceful protests calling on Kabila to step down have been calling on citizens to take an active part in the electoral process.

FRANCE 24’s Thomas Nicolon takes a look at the church’s impact on Sunday's pivotal vote.
