Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon reveals all on filming Countdown and working with Anne Robinson

Countdown's Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon has opened up about her experience co-presenting Countdown.

Dr Imafidon has become a familiar face on daytime TV over the last month as she has been filling in for Rachel Riley, who is on maternity leave.

The new co-presenter revealed on Steph's Packed Lunch she had filmed all of her episodes before Christmas and said Rachel Riley had given her a tip to memorise her "75 times table".

She joined the Leeds studio to talk about her role on the hit Channel 4 competition show.

"It was fun in a way," Dr Imafidon said of the experience: "But it's still a job and this is what is what I've been saying to folks, like it's six things at the same time.

"If you've ever counted, you know sometimes you're counting things and people shout numbers and you're like 'ahh' so I've got that, I'm having to check their answers, I'm having to write it legibly.

"I've also got bigger hair than Rachel does, so I'm also having to stand and not cover Anne's camera or the numbers or the letters, I also have to smile.

"It's a lot, it's fun now looking back, that's pretty cool."

Presenter Steph McGovern asked: "Was it what you thought it would be?"

Dr Imafidon replied: "No, no, I don't know what I thought it would be... I think also just the response has been really cool, because people are like how did it feel? It's like, I'm not watching me, I'm there doing the things.

"So again that was the Christmas special and they had the baubles up on the board and I think I caught my reflection in one of the baubles at one point and was like "oh my god that's me!' .. it's that surreal thing."

The 31-year-old completed her mathematics and computer science A-Levels at the age of 11 and the age of 20 had become one of University of Oxford’s youngest ever masters graduates.

On working with Anne Robinson - who began hosting the show in the Summer of 2021, Anne-Marie MBE replied: "She's fine, I mean it's one of those things, it's so weird because it's also Covid, so everyone's sectioned off and you can't really talk to folks, but you know Anne's nice enough.

"Susie was great when she was there, I mean she missed the first five episodes that I did. The crew is lovely so I think you know, I'd go back that's how Anne was."

Steph's Packed Lunch airs weekdays on Channel 4 from 12.30pm and you can watch Countdown on Channel 4 straight after at 2.10pm.
