Love Island's Dr Alex George to present BBC Children in Need mental health documentary

Love Island 's Dr Alex George may not have found love in the villa, but he won the nation's hearts with his appearance on the ITV series and the work he's done since.

Along with being the UK's Young Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex will now be presenting a BBC Children in Need documentary titled Dr Alex: Our Mental Health Crisis.

The BBC 's statement says: "In this poignant film, Alex will follow the journeys of young people who are facing mental health issues, and explore the difference that can be made thanks to local charities and projects like SAFA, The Wave Project and YoungMinds."

On Wednesday, October 27, Dr Alex announced the news on Instagram, captioning his post saying: "I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS… I will be presenting this years BBC Children In Need documentary - ‘Dr Alex: Our Mental Health Crisis’.

"My mission is to give young people the voice they deserve, bringing youth mental health to the front and centre.

"I promised you I would do everything I could to help young people around the UK and so it’s time to get you heard.

"This documentary has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but at the same time, the most important."

While no release date has been announced, the former reality TV star said it would be on screens in "a few weeks time".

Dr Alex is currently an A&E doctor, who worked for the NHS throughout the pandemic and shared a series of videos throughout in order to educate the public on what life was like on the front line in hospitals.

He answered questions surrounding coronavirus cases, what hospital treatment entailed, and addressed topics such as how to look after your mental health during lockdowns.

In July, 2020, his brother Llŷr tragically died by suicide after struggling with his own mental health.

Dr Alex later said in an interview: "If there wasn't such a stigma... he might have asked for help.

"I might have been able to do something about it. It's very hard for me to accept that."

The star has since gone on to plan ways to improve mental health among students in schools.
