Dozens of trains have been delayed as emergency services deal with an ‘ongoing incident’ near Edinburgh.

ScotRail announced all services travelling between Edinburgh Gateway and Inverkeithing, Fife, would be affected by delays on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on the Forth Rail Bridge shortly before 8am and the line has been temporarily closed.

Travellers are being warned to expect delays (Twitter)

Services between Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth and throughout Fife have been suspended with disruption expected to last for some time.

In a tweet, ScotRail said: “Emergency services are dealing with a incident between Inverkeithing and Edinburgh Gateway.

“All services to and from Edinburgh via Inverkeithing will be affected.”

They added: "Both lines blocked on Forth Rail Bridge. Edinburgh Trams accepting tickets between Edinburgh Gateway and Edinburgh."

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
