Dozens of staff at East Kilbride shopping centre test positive in COVID-19 outbreak

A COVID-19 cluster has been identified among staff at East Kilbride shopping centre.

It is understood approximately 16 employees of the Reith Lambert Facilities Management Team – which consists of centre management to security, cleaning and information staff – have tested positive for the virus in the last week.

Town centre management say all the relevant authorities have been informed of the outbreak and stringent protocols and measures have been, and continue to be, in place.

A spokesman for EK, East Kilbride said: “We can confirm that a number of members of staff at EK, East Kilbride have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now self-isolating along with those individuals they have been in close contact with.

“The centre team is working closely with the relevant health authorities and we are following all health and safety guidelines.

“In addition to EK’s ongoing rigorous cleaning regime and strict hygiene and social distancing measures, specialist contractors are undertaking a deep clean of all areas frequented by the affected employees to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone working in and visiting the centre.

“In line with level 4 measures, the centre remains open for access to essential stores.”
