Dozens of police vehicles race through Edinburgh in dramatic van chase

Dozens of police vehicles were involved in a huge chase across Edinburgh this morning after a suspect failed to stop.

Locals reported seeing several police cars, including an armed response vehicle, chasing a red van in the Granton, Leith and city centre areas of the capital.

The red van was finally forced to a stop near Arthurs Seat on Holyrood Park road with police deploying stingers.

The drama started after officers attempted to stop the van on Calder Road in the west side of the city shortly after 10am.

The driver took off and headed northwards towards Granton with officers giving pursuit.

Witnesses said the van also drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway and almost collided with a bus.

Police Scotland Inspector Roger Park, of Edinburgh City Road Policing, said: "Officers were carrying out standard vehicle checks on Calder Road, Edinburgh around 10.10am on Monday, 4 May, 2020 when a red Ford Transit van failed to stop for their signal.

"This resulted in a pursuit through various parts of Edinburgh before the van was brought to a tactical stop on Holyrood Park Road.

"A 20-year-old man was arrested. Nobody was injured. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
