Dozens of 'laughing gas' canisters found on grounds of Scots primary school

A probe has been launched after dozens of canisters of laughing gas were found dumped in the grounds of a Scots primary school.

Around 30 of the Nitrous Oxide containers were discovered by Kelty Primary in Cowdenbeath, Fife.

Laughing gas is often used recreationally as a party drug and is usually inhaled through a balloon after being taken out of the canisters.

Taking too much can result in fainting through a lack of oxygen or even death.

Cowdenbeath police took to social media to warn about the dangers.

The force tweeted: "The Community Team have been made aware of the discovery of Nitrous Oxide Cannisters after 30 were found in the grounds of Kelty Primary School."

"This gas can have serious consequences when inhaled."

Local councillor Darren Watt said: "I seriously urge parents/carers to talk with their children regarding this potentially lethal drug.

'It may seem like harmless, legal fun but the risks are all too real."
