Dozens of homes evacuated after bomb squad finds mystery liquid in English town

  • A bomb disposal squad has attended an address in Eastbourne after a mystery liquid was discovered, leading to the evacuation of about 160 homes.
  • Police were initially called to a property on Hyde Road at 5.27pm on Monday evening following reports of an unidentified liquid.
  • Residents from six streets were asked to evacuate their homes by 9am on Tuesday, with a rest centre opened at Eastbourne Town Hall.
  • The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team assessed the item, which a neighbour described as a leaking package wrapped in brown tape.
  • Sussex Police said there was no immediate risk to the public, and that the evacuation was a precautionary measure.
