United Utilities confirmed that the problems were due to a 'large burst' on Mancunian Way. Engineers have since managed to 'isolate' the leak and restore water to the properties affected.
In an update on its website this afternoon, the water firm: “We’re really sorry for the disruption to supplies in the Manchester area, caused by the burst water main on Mancunian Way.
“All customers supplies should now be back on as we have managed to isolate the burst, allowing us to restore water to the area.
“Please be aware that it may take a bit of time for your pressure to build back up, and you may experience fluctuations throughout the evening.
“The repair requires some careful planning, due to the size and location of the water main. Please be assured our team will be doing all they can to minimise any disruption caused by this, and will be working as quickly as they can to complete the work.”.
