Dozens of firefighters tackle 'significant' blaze at Scots recycling centre

Dozens of firefighters are attending a blaze at a Scots recycling plant.

Fire crews were originally called out to the blaze at Altens recycling centre in Aberdeen yesterday afternoon, July 9, and battled throughout the night.

There are now 24 fire crews at the scene of the incident as they attempt to control the blaze.

Officers originally thought they had the fire under control yesterday afternoon but they were called back at around 10pm.

The fire service confirmed teams with height appliances, high-volume pumps and water carriers have all been deployed in an effort to bring it under control, reports Aberdeen Live.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that the Aberdeen crews are being supported by colleagues from Alford, Aboyne, Banchory, Peterhead and even as far as Dundee.

They tweeted: "SFRS crews continue to manage a significant fire at a recycling centre in Altens industrial estate, Aberdeen. If visiting the estate, please be aware of wide-spread smoke."

Scottish Water confirmed residents in the AB12 postcode and Cove Bay areas were affected by the blaze. The water body said: "As the hydrants are in use, this is causing no water, low pressure and discoloured water to the surrounding streets."
