Dozens of firefighters called to fire at block of flats in Henbury

Dozens of firefighters were called to a flat fire in Henbury yesterday evening.

Crews from across Bristol were rushed to Standfast Road shortly after 6pm on Thursday, September 12.

Firefighters from Southmead, Avonmouth, Patchway, Temple, Kingswood and Bedminster were all sent to tackle the blaze.

Photos from the scene show smoke billowing from a fifth floor window.

Firefighters used a turntable ladder to fight the flames and a cordon was put in place for a time.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service Control confirmed shortly before 6.45pm that the fire had been extinguished and was under control.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear.

Firefighters from Kingswood were also called to a separate flat fire incident on the same evening.

It was reportedly caused by unattended cooking, prompting Avon Fire and Rescue Service Control to ensure people are always watching and in attendance while cooking.
