Police issued 28 fixed penalty notices at just two house parties in Cardiff this week as council leader brandishes people "selfish idiots".
Cardiff Council leader Huw Thomas posted on social media saying that in the last week, 61% of fines issued in Cardiff last week were for household gatherings.
This included 28 fixed penalty notices issued to people who attended two house parties in the Cathays and Ely area of the city.
Details of the incident were posted by council leader Huw Thomas's Twitter page on January 13 - however, the both the police force and the council did not confirm where these parties had taken place or how many more people had been issued fines for similar offences.
Since March 2020, according to the shared regulatory services, 39 businesses across Cardiff had been issued coronavirus improvement notices - these range from takeaways to retail to hotels. There are currently five active notices in place across Cardiff.
Cardiff had the fifth highest number of new cases reported in Wales on Wednesday, January 13, (176) with an infection rate of 379.1 per 100,000 people based on a seven-day rolling average
It's the latest in a string of Covid breaches despite the fact that Wales is now in a level four alert lockdown, meaning:
- People must stay at home, except for very limited purposes
- People must not visit other households, or meet other people they do not live with
- Many types of businesses are required to close

Police enforcement has been ramped up in the past week as people continue to flout the coronavirus regualtions. On Friday, the First Minister announced the lockdown would be extended a further three weeks and some restrictions would be tightened further.
Elsewhere in Wales, police are patrolling some Llanelli beauty spots and asking people why they are there.
Another house party in Mountain Ash was broken up by police and nine people were given penalty notices.
