Dozens of cyclists 'doing wheelies' bring Bristol traffic to a halt

Dozens of cyclists were seen riding through Bristol city centre this afternoon just as the Kill the Bill protest started.

It is not believed the group were involved with the march, which is now the ninth event Bristol has seen in opposition to the proposed Police and Crime Bill.

Passerby Joshua Durant shared a video of the cyclists, who appeared to be in their teens or younger.

He said: "Massive gang of bikes parading outside Temple Meads. They then crossed the busy four way road junction despite the red lights, bringing traffic to a halt.

"They went up to the large church near Temple Meads. They did a big loop and ended up back at the station.

"Speaking to a colleague she said they did this during the last lockdown too, so they must just organise it and get as many as they can!

"They since left the station for the second time and I haven't seen them since."

Bristol Live's chief reporter Conor Gogarty said he also saw the cyclists whilst walking towards the Kill the Bill protest.

He said: "At about 2.15pm they headed from the Temple Meads area towards St Mary Redcliffe church. Some were doing wheelies, and there were a few dozen in total."

Avon and Somerset Police has been approached for further comment.
