Dozens of Covid-19 patients remain in intensive care across Lothians although hospital numbers drop

Dozens of Covid-19 patients remain in intensive care across the Lothians.

The latest Scottish Government figures reveal that as of midnight on Friday there were 36 people being treated in ICU in the area, with 262 patients in hospitals.

This actually represents a decrease on Friday's figures – with 40 patients reported to have been in ICU and 277 in Lothian area hospitals 24-hours ago.

However the number of confirmed cases across the Lothians has increased, with 856 positive tests – up 57 from Friday's figure.

Across Scotland there have been 47 additional deaths reported in the last day. The overall number of people who have died after testing positive for Covid-19 across Scotland is now 542.

Earlier today Edinburgh Live reported how a leading UK researcher said she was hopeful a coronavirus vaccine could be ready in the next six months.

Professor Sarah Gilbert from Oxford University confirmed that her team have created a potential vaccine that is due to begin human trials in the coming weeks.
