Dozens of coronavirus lockdown rule breakers moved on from Dumfries and Galloway beauty spot by police

Dozens of lockdown rule breakers were moved on by police at a beauty spot in the region on Sunday.

Officers found about 50 people getting ready to camp out at Mennock Pass near Wanlockhead.

A statement issued by police said: “While on patrol in the Mennock Pass, officers found a large number of people who had travelled from outwith our region.

“About 50 who had intended camping for the weekend were reminded of the guidelines prior to them leaving the area.

“Our officers will continue to visit local beauty spots to encourage people to #StaySafe.”

Police urged people to follow Scottish Government guidelines as the country eases out of lockdown.

Hairdressers opened their doors yesterday for the first time this year as Scotland’s “stay at home” order was removed, with people instead advised to “stay local”.

Garden centres, homeware stores and car showrooms were also allowed to reopen and shops could resume click and collect services.

The next step on the timetable is for shops, gyms and pubs and restaurants to begin reopening on April 26. That will also be the end of the Scotland-wide travel ban.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned: “It will be easier to relax more restrictions in the future if case numbers remain under control, so when things open up slightly this weekend please continue to stick to the rules and follow the advice and the instructions given by store staff to keep you and the other customers safe.”
