Dozens of cops swarm Edinburgh property in morning raid as street locked down

Dozens of cops descended on a property in Edinburgh in an early morning raid.

Officers locked down Leith Street shortly after 11:15am on Tuesday morning.

Six vehicles with plain clothed and uniformed officers were spotted at the scene.

It's understood a flat above a shop on the street was appeared to be at the centre of the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing several workers at the St James Quarter development across the road being interviewed as part of the probe, reports Edinburgh Live

It comes after police carried out a pre-planned raid at another property at 6am in Elm Row, in the city.

Residents claimed to have seen a heavy police presence on Leith Walk at around 6.30am on Wednesday morning.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers in Edinburgh carried out a pre-planned firearms operation around 6am at a property on Elm Row in connection with an ongoing investigation.

"Enquiries remain ongoing.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
