Dozens of beachgoers slapped with parking fines as police make five arrests

Parking fines were handed out to beachgoers as police made five arrests and seized a haul of DJ equipment at Formby beach.

As crowds flooded to the beach during soaring temperatures yesterday, police foiled an illegal rave - seizing a generator, a DJ mixing deck and 20 speakers.

Five arrests were also made as well as 60 parking tickets issued and 15 dispersal notices given out.

Yesterday, a section 34 Dispersal Zone was put in place at Formby Beach that lasts until 2.30pm on Friday as a direct response to the number of people flocking there in the hot weather.

The increase in visitors has brought with it high levels of crime and anti-social behaviour, forcing Merseyside Police to take drastic action.

Because of the order, police officers will be able to leave the area for 48 hours that they suspect are causing, or likely to cause, crime, nuisance or anti-social behaviour.

After seizing the equipment, Sefton Police said on their local Facebook page: “Anyone attending Sefton with equipment to be used for a rave will have it taken from them and may be prosecuted.

“Likewise, individuals seeking to attend such events will be stopped and dealt with for any offences they are committing.

“You may have seen elsewhere on social media a video of some young men happily taking a large speaker to the beach. They no longer have that speaker. We do.”

They also say that parking tickets have been issued as a result of the disruption caused by the large number of people attending Formby and parking illegally.
