Dozens killed as police ‘open fire’ on protesters amid election unrest in Kashmir

At least 30 people were reportedly killed in Pakistan -administered Kashmir after police fired on supporters of the banned civil rights group, Awami Action Committee (JAAC), during regional elections.
The JAAC alleges that 25 people died on Monday and five more on Tuesday, with security forces accused of removing bodies to conceal evidence.
Amnesty International has called for a prompt, independent investigation into the use of force and demanded the restoration of internet services in the area.
Pakistani authorities deny the killings and have accused India of financing the protests, an allegation rejected by the JAAC.
The protests, which have led to ongoing violence and an internet shutdown, stem from JAAC demands for subsidised food prices and the abolition of legislative seats reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir.
