Downton star falls foul of Old Rosie

We’ve all heard of method actors gaining or losing weight for roles, but a Downton Abbey actor is so committed to the show that he broke back into the set to spend the night in a trailer. Actually, is was more to do with having a bevvie than being a luvvie as the Daily Telegraph reports that Allen Leech, who plays Tom Branson in the ITV drama, took the unusual action after one too many in the pub after filming had ended.

“We’d been at work, so we decided to have a few beers followed by quite a lot of Old Rosie ciders,” he said. It then transpired that Leech had forgotten to check into his hotel, couldn’t contact his evening’s drinking partner and had to scale the spiked gates of Highclere Castle to get back into the set to sleep it off. Well we’ve all been there.

But as any tippler knows, you always pay a price for a night on the tiles. “I had to do a very long scene with Richard E Grant with the footsteps of Old Rosie banging through my brains,” Leech said. Might have been OK if they’d been filming a remake of Withnail and I.
