Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt splits from James Cannon after eight-year marriage

Downtown Abbey star Joanne Froggatt has shared the news that she and husband James Cannon have split.

The Liar actress, 39, and IT consultant were married for eight-years after tying the knot in Oxford in 2012.

Discussing the end of their union, the star revealed that the couple have been apart 'for a while' and added that her focus is now her happiness.

"We've actually been separated for a little while," she shared with The Telegraph magazine when quizzed on James.

She added: "I'm looking to the future."

The award-winner shared that she is not ruling out becoming a mum in the future, as she told: "If it happens, it happens. And if it doesn't, I hope I'll still feel I can live a happy and fulfilled life."

The former couple set up a production company together called Run It, and have plans to continue working on projects together despite o longer being romantically involved.

In 2015, Joanne gushed about her "perfect" relationship with James and told that she liked that James was not in the showbiz industry.

"He's passionate about film and theatre, so we have a common interest – and he's not in the business, so it's perfect," she told The Telegraph in 2015.

Joanne is set to return to TV screens soon for series two of Lair - which will follow the apparent murder of serial rapist Andrew Earlham that took place at the end of the gripping finale of season one.

Under suspicion for the killing are Joanne’s character Laura, her sister Katy (Zoe Tapper), fellow rape victim DI Vanessa Harmon (Shelley Conn), or her partner Jennifer (Jill Halfpenny).

Other contenders could be Laura’s ex-boyfriend Tom, (Warren Brown) who lost his police officer job because of Earlham, or the rapist’s son Luke (Jamie Flatters), who lied to give his father an alibi.
