Downton Abbey movie: First teaser trailer for big screen adaptation released

The first teaser trailer for the forthcoming Downton Abbey movie has been released, giving fans a taste of what's to come when the Crawley family returns on the big screen.

A clip unveiled on Friday features maids getting the Crawley residence ready for visitors, opening the curtains and folding away sheets protecting the furniture.

The camera then switches to spectacular shots of the Crawley's sprawling estate while a version of the series's theme (which is by Scottish composer) John Lunn plays.

It was confirmed in July 2018 that Downton Abbey would be turned into a movie.

The film, titled simply Downton Abbey, stars the same principal cast as the TV show, which premiered in 2010 on ITV in the UK before making its US debut in 2011 on PBS.

Maggie Smith, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, and Hugh Bonneville have all agreed to reprise their roles, sources close to the movie told People previously.

The screenplay is signed by show creator Julian Fellowes. Michael Engler is directing.

Downton Abbey, the movie, is set to be released on 13 September, 2019 in the UK, and in the US a week later, on 20 September, 2019.
