Downton Abbey movie: Elizabeth McGovern hints sequel is on the cards

Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern opened up about the much-anticipated film - and even hinted that a sequel could be on the cards.

The 57-year-old actress, who plays Lady Crawley in the Emmy-winning series, appeared on This Morning to tease details about the upcoming movie.

Downton aired from 2010 for five years until 2015 and followed the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their staff in the post-Edwardian era.

Asked by avid fans Holly and Phil whether the Downton film, which is coming out four years after the TV series ended, would live up to expectations, she said: "I think so, it's certainly our intention. I haven't seen it yet, it's for the fans."
