Downton Abbey film trailer released and characters are preparing for royal visit

The trailer has been released for the hotly-anticipated .

The film is due to be released in cinemas on September 13 this year in the UK and a week later on September 20 in the USA.

The TV series, which ran from 2010 to 2015, followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country home.

Julian Fellowes has penned the script for the film which reunites the cast and sees our favourite characters prepare for a royal visit.

Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith and Jim Carter were just some of those who starred.

Tuppence Middleton, from Clevedon, will also be starring and it looks as though she could be a potential love interest for former chauffeur Tom Branson (Allen Leech).

The cast have been back filming at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, which was also the main location in the TV series, Mirror Online reports.

Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Michelle Dockery were also seen shooting in Wiltshire with two new famous faces, Imelda Staunton and Geraldine James, who is rumoured to play Queen Mary.

Max Brown also joins as a new character.

The film will be released in September (Publicity Picture)

Most of the cast have confirmed their return though, of course, one beloved character won't be back. We're still not over Matthew, and yes we know that was ages ago.

Matthew Goode, who played Lady Mary's husband Henry is only appearing briefly as he had other commitments.

Over its six seasons, the series garnered three Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, a Special BAFTA award and 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-US television show in the history of the Emmys – even earning a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show along the way.
