'Downright carnage, disgusting!' Mick McCarthy laments Cardiff City's sloppy defending in Peterborough draw

Mick McCarthy rued how his Cardiff City side defended after the half-time break which allowed Peterborough to steal a march and net two quick goals in the 2-2 draw.

The Bluebirds were hit for two goals in as many minutes after the break when Harrison Burrows and Siriki Dembele scored to give Posh control.

It took a late double from Aden Flint to ensure Cardiff came away from Weston Homes Stadium with a point, but while McCarthy was clearly happy to come away having not lost the game, he was still furious at how his side defended after the break.

"It was downright carnage, disgusting, not right, it shouldn't happen," McCarthy said of Peterborough's quick double.

"But the players feel that way as well. They have all come in disappointed, disgusted with the fact we conceded the two goals we did.

"Good, I'm glad. I'm glad they feel that way as well, because it made us look bloody awful for 10 minutes and another 10 minutes further on, until we got the subs on and changed it around.

"We got a response and we saw the worst and the best."

That could well prove to be an important point, though, later on in the season.

Cardiff have continued their unbeaten start to the campaign and the 1-1 means they head into the clash with Millwall in confident mood.

And McCarthy at least praised the Bluebirds' show of spirit in the dramatic draw.

"The response the lads showed, it shows the team spirit, desire and willingness to work hard," he said.

"They showed [character] last season, with 10 wins, nine draws and three defeats. They showed real character and they've not lost that.

"The results we've had so far helps to build that. The belief.

"It knocked the stuffing out of us ,the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the response was terrific."
