Downpours predicted for Bristol - snow possible elsewhere according to Met Office

Heavy showers are expected in Bristol this morning (December 14), with snow possible elsewhere in England.

It will be a cool day in the city, according to the Met Office, with a top gust of 41mph scheduled for 10am.

After showers between 7am and 10am, we should enjoy a dry spell during the afternoon and sunny intervals.

But the rain is likely to return in the evening, becoming heavy between 7pm and 8pm, before dropping back to light rain for the rest of the night.

Temperature-wise, the Met Office says it will feel as cold as one degree in the morning, but in truth the temperature will remain steady throughout the day, hovering around the six or seven degrees mark.

As for the rest of the UK, the Met Office says: "Rain or showers in the north and west with snow on hills and coastal gales. Driest in the east. More widespread rain Saturday night, with snow possible over northern England."

According to the Mirror, up to 10cm of snow could fall in some parts of the UK tomorrow as forecasters warn of an icy blast.

Anywhere north of Wales could be affected by heavy sleet and snow over the weekend, with Met Office chiefs warning there could be disruption as a result.

More than 120 flood alerts have been put in place by the Environment Agency, and experts say it will feel colder than normal for this time of year because of strong wind.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill told Mirror Online: "There could be five to 10cm of snow over higher ground in Northern England, with perhaps a centimetre in lower ground in some areas of the North East.

"Anywhere in North Wales and northwards could see sleet and snow."

He said no snow warnings are in place at the present time, but Met Office bosses are "keeping an eye on it".

Mr Burkill said daytime temperatures are a little below average for this time of year, with wind making it feel colder.
