Downpatrick Road closed after crash between car and bus

Police have closed a Co Down road following a crash involving a bus and a car.

The incident on the Downpatrick Road in Clough was reported around 8.35am this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The Downpatrick road in Clough is closed in both directions following a road traffic collision involving a bus and a car.

"Local diversions are being put in place, however drivers are advised to seek alternative routes if possible."

South Down MP Chris Hazzard said: "Please avoid area if possible."

Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment - it is understood the Air Ambulance is at the scene.

A Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they have three appliances in attendance.

They were called at 8.43am.

"Fire Appliances are currently in attendance - one from Downpatrick Fire Station, one from Newcastle Fire Station and one from Ballynahinch Fire Station," they added.

"The incident is ongoing."
