Police in Castlewellan catch 14-year-old driving their parent's car in "recipe for disaster"

Police have found a 14-year-old driving their parent's car.

The teenager is reported to have taken the keys of the car and was caught driving the jeep on their own around Castlewellan by officers.

They then brought the teen home to their parents, who were visibly shocked according to police.

The young person was interviewed and will be referred to the Youth Diversion Officer.

The incident was labelled as "a recipe for disaster."

A PSNI statement said: "14 years old and driving their parent's jeep on their own around Castlewellan - A recipe for disaster!

Officers from Downpatrick, who came across this, brought the young person home to their Mum and Dad, who were clearly shocked to wake and find us at their door.

They had taken the keys to their parent's car and went for a spin.

They were interviewed and will be referred to the Youth Diversion Officer."
