Downpatrick murder investigation: 28-year-old killed in stabbing named locally

A 28-year-old who was stabbed to death in Co Down has been named locally.

Aidan Mann, a well-known tattoo artist, was killed during the attack in Downpatrick on Monday, January 3.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A Newtownards tattoo studio posted about Aidan's work as a tattoo artist.

A post read: "There’s no easy way to write this status and I really wish I didn’t have to. But sadly today the world lost one of the best artists and human beings I know."

They described Aidan as not just an artist, but a "best friend and a member of our family."

A tribute posted from a car enthusiast community said that Aidan's 'talents rest in the hands of all the people who looked up to you'.

The post read: "Folks it's with an extremely heavy heart I have to write this about our dear friend.

"Aidan loved coming up and joining in with the fun at Seacat and we would love to dedicate Tuesday night.

"We are hoping to have some vinyl ribbons made up and hand them out at the entrance into the car park tomorrow so we can all show our respect..."

It added: "May you rest in peace Aidan, until we meet again, you were so loved by us and many others, may your talents rest in the hands of all the people who looked up to you."

In a second appeal, PSNI Detective Inspector Foreman said: “The 28-year-old victim was stabbed in the Church Street area of the town at around 11am on Monday, 3rd January. Sadly, despite help from the public and medical assistance from paramedics, [Aidan] was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time.

“We are also aware that some video footage taken of the incident is being shared on social media. I am asking people not to share or view that footage.

“If anyone has information that could assist our investigation please get in touch. If you have dash cam or mobile phone footage of any part of this brutal incident, and have not yet contacted us, please do so by calling 101 quoting reference number 497 of 03/01/22."
