Downpatrick 'hit-and-run' probed by police after teenager sustains hip injury

A 14-year-old girl has sustained a hip injury after being struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing in a 'hit-and-run' yesterday.

Police in Downpatrick are investigating the alleged incident which happened on Market Street on Thursday November 8, during rush hour.

A PSNI spokesperson made the appeal on Facebook.

He said: "Were you on Market Street , Downpatrick, yesterday at around 5:30pm? If so, maybe you could help us out.

"A young female was using the pedestrian crossing outside the bus station around this time when a white vehicle failed to stop and collided with her, resulting in a hip injury.

"Unfortunately the vehicle did not stop to even check if this girl was ok, and made off. We believe we have some details of the driver - male, aged somewhere between 30-40yrs and he drove to drive in the direction of the town centre.

"We will be following up with CCTV but if you witnessed this or could provide any further details please contact us on 101, the serial number is 1426 of 07/11/2019."
