Download festival to return as 10,000-person Covid test event

This year's Download music festival is back on the cards after initially being cancelled in March.

The UK's premier rock concert will run from June 18 to 20 as a coronavirus test event with a capacity of 10,000 people.

While this is significantly down from the festival's usual crowd of 111,000, organisers have confirmed that moshing will be allowed, reports NottinghamshireLive.

The event – dubbed the Download Pilot – will be the very first camping event of its kind, with the full line-up set to be announced on Friday, 28 May.

Festivalgoers will be expected to stay on-site at Donington Park, Leicestershire, for the full duration of the event, meaning day tickets are not an option.

It follows a successful nightclub test event in Liverpool earlier this month as the UK government expands its research into how entertainment venues can reopen safely.

Fans will be asked to take a PCR test before and after the festival, as well as a rapid lateral flow test.

Any transmission of coronavirus will be closely monitored via NHS Test and Trace.

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, June 1 for those who have already booked a spot for 2022.

General admission opens two days later on Thursday, June 3.

The price will be £120 plus booking fees.

More information can be found on the Download website.
