To mark the career of one of rock’s most prominent forces, Download 2016 will pay tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmister with a stage named after the late frontman, with an additional musical tribute in the works.

The event, which takes place on the grounds of Donington Park, Leicestershire, has announced that it will honour the Motörhead frontman by naming its main stage the Lemmy Stage in tribute. “We are working with Motörhead’s management on a tribute to the great man during the slot he would have performed on, more information to follow,” the festival added in a statement.

As well as the Download celebration, this month’s Grammy awards will also mark the life and legacy of Lemmy, who died aged 70 of cancer at the end of last year. The likes of Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry – otherwise known collectively as Hollywood Vampires – will reportedly lead the ceremony’s rock reminiscing with their performance.

As well as news of the Download tribute, 36 new artists have been added to the festival’s bill: Jane’s Addiction, NOFX, Sixx:A.M. featuring former Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, Bury Tomorrow, Periphery, Alien Ant Farm, Amon Amarth and more will play at the June event.

They join headliners Rammstein, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden for the festival, which takes place from 10-12 June.
