Downing Street should fly the county colours of Middlesex to celebrate the county on its historic day on Friday, a senior Conservative MP has said.
The Tories began the tradition of flying the flag of the historic north London county in May 2022.
But Labour has indicated it will not fly county flags above No10, prompting criticism from the Tories.
Shadow paymaster general Richard Holden said: “It saddens me that Labour are happy to fly whatever woke flag comes off their production line but when it comes to our historic county flags they are not interested.”
On Thursday, a Downing Street spokesperson told the BBC that Sir Keir Starmer “has pride in celebrating our heritage” and highlighted a St George’s Day reception held in Downing Street last month.
Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, told GB News that he was frustrated that historically important counties were overlooked.
"The reality is, the United Kingdom, particularly England, has a patchwork of historic counties. I am deeply proud of being from Essex and I am sick and tired of people saying Romford is Greater London,” he said.
Middlesex encompasses all of London north of the River Thames - with the exception of the independent City of London - as well as the surrounding rural areas up to the rivers Colne and Lea.
Middlesex Day on May 16 falls on the anniversary of the British Army’s battle at Albuhera, in Spain, when the Middlesex Regiment held back Napoleon’s forces during the Peninsula Wars.
