Downing Street confirms rule on pub and restaurant time limits

Downing Street has said the coronavirus regulations will not limit the amount of time people can spend in pubs and restaurants.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “It’s not part of the regulations, as I understand it.

“Pubs, and restaurants in particular, as I’m sure lots of us will know, do sometimes put limits on the amount of time you can have a table for, for example.”

Rules will include venues taking contact details of every customer in case anyone is diagnosed with Covid-19 when pubs reopen from 6am on Saturday.

There will also be limits of numbers inside premises and queues to get in.

There will be reduced menus at many venues as well as table service instead of bar ordering - and safety screens, handgel and staff wearing visors.

There will also be additional cleaning and changes to rules on condiment containers, cutlery and self service of food and drinks.
