There are plans to install CCTV cameras in Downend High Street in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The idea has come from Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Council who say the area has experienced an increase in anti-social behaviour over the last four years.
It has gone to South Gloucestershire Council for help to implement the scheme.
Installing cameras on the high street was first mentioned back in July 2018 after a group of “mindless vandals” destroyed a number of flower beds on the street.
Bristol Live reported that louts paraded through Downend High Street and overturned several planters, leaving soil and flowers strewn across the pavement in their wake.
At the time residents called for the installation of more CCTV, to better protect the street and catch those responsible should something like this happen again.
Janet Biggin, chair of Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Council, said it was important for the council to “keep up with the times and to help the police with their work”.
She added: “We want to make sure Downend is a safe place to live and work.”
South Gloucestershire Council has said the total installation cost for the three cameras is around £30,000 with ongoing costs of approximately £10,000 per year.
The parish council will fund the installation costs in full and South Gloucestershire has agreed to fund the ongoing maintenance and monitoring costs of the CCTV system.
A seven week consultation has been launched to give businesses and residents a chance to have their say on whether they would support the installation and use of CCTV.

Following the consultation, a decision is likely to be made in the summer of 2020, and if the council agrees to the proposal, CCTV installation would likely happen around autumn this year.
