Newcastle United fans believe it is down to two from three sides to go down after Burnley's win over Everton.
The Clarets moved seven points clear of the bottom three with their 2-1 win at Goodison Park, albeit having played a game more than 18th-placed Fulham.
Newcastle were able to rescue a last-gasp point against Aston Villa on Friday night, but that left them just two points clear of Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.
There were hopes that Burnley could be drawn into the danger zone but Magpies fans believe those chances have all but disappeared after their win on Saturday afternoon.
Fans were quick to point to Steve Bruce's comments last month about the number of teams that were looking over their shoulder at the drop zone.
"For me there are seven teams in it and there has probably been that from the start," he said.
"There are six or seven teams that usually compete at the bottom end and last year we finished top of that table, so our aim is can we do that again?
"That’s what I’m trying to aim for and trying to be a little bit realistic. But of course, you’re always looking over your shoulder.
"But we’re not alone, I must stress this. It just seems as though Newcastle are the only one in it – we are not alone. There are six or seven teams all in and around us who are still nervously looking over their shoulders."
Yet Crystal Palace's victory over West Brom on Saturday afternoon has also eased the Eagles' fears that they may be dragged into the dogfight.
With the Magpies next set to face Brighton & Hove Albion in what could be a huge six-pointer, Burnley's win has put further pressure on the sides at the bottom to start picking up points.
