'Down to earth' Benedict Cumberbatch enjoys day in the waves at Bristol surfing hotspot

Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch was spotted soaking up the rays in his wetsuit during a day out at Bristol’s unique surf destination, The Wave. Looking cheerful, the famous actor stopped and chatted with fans and even sat down for a conversation and photo with regular visitor to The Wave, Jacob Kelly, 34.

Fans responded to Jacob’s post on Twitter, thanking him for posting the snap of the Marvel star and commenting on how ‘down to earth’ the actor seemed during the visit on Monday. Mental health support worker Jacob, who lives in Bristol, said: "At about 11:30, he sat down and had a little chat with us.

"I asked him what he was doing in Bristol and he said he was just spending some time here. I asked if he had been to Glastonbury but he said no, he had absolute FOMO [fear of missing out] and was just at The Wave enjoying some surfing.

"He was really nice. My friend had just had her baby so he sat and had a chat with us and then said he had to go. We told him to enjoy Bristol."

The 45-year-old actor had previously been spotted in Somerset in April 2021 whilst filming for his second solo film in the Marvel franchise as superhero Doctor Strange.

Jacob added: "Mondays are my day off with my son. This Monday, I met up with a friend of mine who had just had a baby and her son and we were just chatting by the side of the water.

"I said I was pretty sure that’s Benedict Cumberbatch and he came across so I asked do you mind if I get a picture. He said 'I’ll be honest, if I say yes to you, everyone else is going to ask me', so I said that’s fine, I understand.

"We were saying it must be so stressful, and then two minutes later, he ran over and said he was sorry and was happy to take the photo. It’s a really chilled atmosphere there. He was there most of the day and I think it was probably the best day for him – the weather was great and it was really quiet."
