THE King of hillclimbs is extending a royal welcome back to spectators as one of Scotland’s most famous motorsport venues gears up for a weekend of thrills over the next few days.
This is the first time in two years that visitors have been allowed at Doune, known as the King of the Hills for its snaking 1350-metre course through the Perthshire countryside.
It’s rightly regarded as one of the most challenging hillclimbs in the world.
And to give motoring fans and others looking for a family day out an extra reason to come and see Scotland’s fastest race cars in action, the ticket price has been reduced to just £5 for adults.
Children aged 14 and under enjoy free entry when accompanied by adults, making the Doune Hillclimb an ideal family day out in the fresh air.
There’s a packed competitive entry for the weekend, with cars ranging from pre-war classics to the latest high-tech single-seaters, and everything in between.
And the Scottish Hillclimb Championship reaches its climax at Doune with the final rounds held on the Saturday and Sunday.
There will be guaranteed close racing as Stuart Sugden in his GWR Raptor and Les Mutch in another Raptor battle it out for the national title.
There are also plenty of class honours at stake, so keep an eye out for the fight between David Reid in his Subaru Impreza and Renault Clio driver Derek Rothnie.
Racing starts at 9am tomorrow and again on Sunday, with action throughout both days and lots of spectating places all the way up the hill.
