Douglas Ross self-isolating after staff member tests positive for covid

Douglas Ross is self-isolating after a Tory staff member returned a positive lateral flow test for coronavirus.

The Scottish Conservatives leader and five other colleagues have taken PCR tests after receiving the news late last night.

It means Ross won't be in the Holyrood chamber today for one of the biggest events in the Scottish Government's calendar.

Finance secretary Kate Forbes is due to present the draft budget for the year ahead at around 3.15pm.

Ross will instead have to deliver his party's response remotely.

A party spokesman said the MSP returned a negative lateral flow test on Wednesday evening around 5pm.

As a precaution Ross and staff members are now self-isolating and taking PCR tests.

Ross was previously forced to self-isolate at an Edinburgh hotel in June after meeting a Tory MP who subsequently tested positive for covid.

The Scottish Conservatives leader had attended several events in Peterhead on with Scotland Office minister David Duguid.

The MP had not shown any symptoms but decided to take a test after several cases of coronavirus were reported at his children's school.
