Douglas Laing launches £3,500 Islay bottling

Whisky firm Douglas Laing & Co has launched its oldest ever bottling from an Islay distillery which is expected to fetch £3,500 a pop.

Only 299 bottles of the Port Ellen 40 year old single cask whisky have been produced by the Glasgow blender and bottler.

Douglas Laing’s chairman, Fred Laing, and director of whisky, Cara Laing, have hand-signed each label of the Xtra Old Particular The Black Series Port Ellen Vintage 1979 which has gone on sale throughout Europe and Asia.

Cara Laing said: “Port Ellen is definitely a firm favourite distillery for the Douglas Laing family. It was my grandfather’s - our founder - favourite whisky and one my dad Fred and I have enjoyed together on many a special occasion over the years. The inimitably elegant, complex and leathery style of this particular dram embodies everything we treasure about Islay’s most celebrated distillery.”

Douglas Laing was founded in 1948 as a whisky blender and bottler specialising in single cask and small batch malt scotch whiskies.
