Dougie Freedman's Nottingham Forest used to put me to sleep, says ex-Reds boss

Ian McParland says Nottingham Forest's negative style of play under Dougie Freedman had him falling asleep at the City Ground.

McParland oversaw 13 Reds games back in 2006 during a brief spell as the club's caretaker boss, winning eight.

Since then he has found himself tasked with a number of roles within Forest 's set-up, including youth coach.

But it was clear which former Reds boss he disliked watching the most, as he quickly plucked Freedman's name from his head while talking on NottsTV.

“I used to fall asleep under Dougie’s team when I was watching in the stands," he said.

“They'd defend the 18-yard box and didn't move from there, the striker was always isolated and I’m sat there thinking: ‘Wow’.

“I liked the football they played under Warburton. They actually played some fantastic flowing football as they did with Billy [Davies].

“I loved watching his team play but the undoing of Warburton at Forest was when they lost the ball.

"It was great to watch but in transition, they were all over the place.”
