Doug Williams wants Redskins to find ‘go-to guy’ at WR

The Washington Redskins continue to search for help at wide receiver.

Washington senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams stressed this point again during a meeting with the press Monday.

“I think when you look across this league at this particular time when you talk about a receiver basically what I think what we need and what we’ve talked about is what you call a ‘go-to guy,’” Williams said, according to Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams.

The Redskins might try to seek this out again during this week’s draft, where they start their journey at No. 15.

There are plenty of interesting first-round candidates, with names like D.K. Metcalf leading the way. But a defensive-minded class might let the Redskins luck into a falling prospect in Round 2 or beyond.

Which isn’t to say the Redskins haven’t repeatedly tried to find this rare leading receiver. Josh Doctson was a first-round pick in 2016 and still hasn’t panned out. They brought Paul Richardson over from Seattle in free agency a year ago, but injuries limited him.

With the quarterback situation a mess, the Redskins now, perhaps more than ever, need a player like Williams describes — and they aren’t doing much to hide it.
