Doug Pederson remains undecided on Carson Wentz status for preseason opener

For Carson Wentz, this preseason is night and day different from the scenario’s he faced returning to the team after rehabbing a torn ACL. Wentz is no longer looking over his shoulder at Nick Foles nor is returning from a debilitating injury.

Wentz is the king of Philly, and that changes your approach to the preseason. Asked about playing in Thursday’s preseason opener, Wentz was noncommittal and not opposed to watching. When asked about taking a hit for the first time since last season, he had this to say.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson remained undecided on Wentz’ status for the game as well when asked by reporters.

Wentz skipped the entire preseason last year as he made his way back from a torn ACL. As for the rest of the Eagles, Nate Sudfeld, Clayton Thorsen and Clay Kessler could use the work, with the latter two battling for the 3rd quarterback spot. Kessler, for his part, is aiming to make it all the way up towards backup quarterback status.

During his presser, Doug Pederson said that one of the team’s goals in the preseason is to get Sudfeld “as much playing time as possible.”

Sitting Wentz would make that much easier.
