Doug Pederson provides an update on DeSean Jackson; Eagles optimistic star WR can play vs. Bears

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson met with the media on Wednesday and for the first time in weeks, the Birds are optimistic that DeSean Jackson can be available. Despite not making any trades at the deadline, getting Jackson back could be just as valuable as acquiring a new player.

Pederson told the media that he’s optimistic about Jackson’s availability.

“DeSean’s been looking really good,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. “He’s been working hard in his rehab … I’m optimistic, obviously, and we’ll take it day by day.”

In Jackson’s absence, the Eagles have struggled to stretch the field, with Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins and Alshon Jeffery all finding it difficult to find room to work. In the season opener against the Redskins, Jackson had 154 yards and two deep touchdowns, and that level of production hasn’t been duplicated.

Jackson is one of six Eagles — along with linebacker Nigel Bradham (ankle, illness), defensive tackle Tim Jernigan (foot), cornerback Avonte Maddox (concussion, neck), left tackle Jason Peters (knee) and running back Darren Sproles (quadriceps) all continuing to work their way back from injury.
