Doug Pederson prepared to move forward with Andre Dillard despite keeping contact with Jason Peters

The Philadelphia Eagles are finding it hard to move on from Jason Peters and despite having constant contact with the future Hall of Famer, Doug Pederson sounds prepared to move forward with the 2019 first-round pick.

During a recent conference call, Pederson admitted that the Eagles had been in contact with Peters, but reiterated that the team is confident and prepared to move forward with Andre Dillard at left tackle via The Athletic.

“With Jason Peters, we’ve always said that we’d stay in touch with him during the offseason, and we have. Jason Peters is a tremendous, not only football player, but he’s a tremendous Philadelphia Eagle. … But as we move forward, Andre Dillard was the player that we drafted to be that left tackle for us. He played last year. It kind of propels him into this offseason where he’s taken command of that role. We have a ton of confidence, I have a ton of confidence, in Andre Dillard playing (the) left tackle spot. … This is why we drafted Andre Dillard: You look at his skill set and what he brings to our offense, and what he brings to the Philadelphia Eagles, it fits right in line with everything that (offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland) talks about, teaches, preaches about, and what we are as an offense. … (Dillard) understands that, yeah, strength is a big part of playing offensive line, but that’s something that can be worked on in the offseason and that’s what he’s doing right now. … That’s how we’re proceeding moving forward.”

It sounds more and more like the Eagles would prefer to move on from Peters but are looking for the perfect way to make the statement. His inability to find a high-priced suitor in free agency have made things that much harder.
