Doug Pederson on Nick Foles: ‘He’s going to demand excellence’

For the first time in two years Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson will be entering the upcoming football season without one of his team’s best leaders in quarterback Nick Foles, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars this month. And while the third-year head coach will miss Foles, he told the media that the Jags have a solid leader in their locker room and a player who will demand the best out of the roster Tuesday at the NFL’s annual meeting.

If there is any coach who understands Foles’ full potential, it’s Pederson. The veteran quarterback spent two solid seasons learning from Pederson, who was a huge part of him returning to Philly and his development while there. Their connection was so strong that Foles was able to help the Eagles make two playoff runs in 2017-18, one of which ended with the Eagles defeating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. In addition to that win, Foles was able to become the games MVP after accumulating a 61.5 percent completion rate for 373 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

The Eagles picked up Foles’ option in early February, but the veteran paid the team $2 million for his freedom. It appears there clearly wasn’t any love lost in the process as Foles will now take what he learned from Pederson and apply it in Jacksonville to hopefully help the Jags once again become a Super Bowl contender.
